Marking a special day in Kisumu

Marching with the IDSC banner

In April, we celebrated the International Day for Street Children in Kisumu, Kenya, with a day-long event in the local market.

Street children speaking to the crowds
The street children themselves performed throughout the day, educating the public on what life is really like on the streets.

Crowds gather in the market
Loads of passersby stopped to watch the event and we hope they now have a new understanding of street children.

Marathon

Helen full of smiles still part way through the marathon

I’m amazed that anyone half way through a marathon still has the energy to smile and make faces at a camera!  Still, a huge well done to Helen for running the London Marathon to raise money for us, together with our very own Anna-mai (the one pulling a silly face!).

Finishing in under 5 hours was a great achievement, and it’s not too late to show your support!  Please do add your support to make all Helen’s hard work worth it.

Hello from my Android

Hello people, sorry still working on trying to get everything set up, but I am very excited to have just discovered I can blog from my Android! Gotta love living in the smartphone era!

Although much as I appreciate my phone, I know they can be even more vital for some. Imagine being a potato farmer in a poor region of Kenya. Nearby town A has an abundance of potatoes in the market so they are being bought for very low prices. But in the other direction town B is completely out of potatoes and so they’re being bought at a very high price. But you, my poor Kenyan farmer, don’t know which town has the better price until you travel miles across the desert to both, by which point you’ve run out of money to make the journey. How life-changing would a phone be that could tell you the local market prices and enable you to sell your potatoes for better profit and so be better able to feed your family over the coming week? Genius!
